I remember quite vividly as a kid wanting to dress up as a Disney princess for Halloween. I didn’t have the exact costume for a single one for people to know who I was going as. So I decided to go as Snow White since I felt that painting my face white would make it obvious that I’m Snow White (it always said her skin was as white as snow so I took it literally at like age 8 lol). I remember being so upset when everyone thought I was some sort of zombie because of my choice of using face paint all over my face.

The reality was that at that time, I had never seen a princess that looked like me. I didn’t feel like simply putting on a tiara, and a pretty dress would have been sufficient. I understood enough at a young age that Black princesses didn’t exist.

Here is my take on a set of princess themed cookies. My goal was to have every child that received one either see themselves or see someone who they know as a princess. No kid should feel like they can’t be something simply because they’re being limited by what the world is choosing to show them. #representationmatters
